An extensive extended voyage through the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a rest. The ship left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation discovered her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that travelers and crew on the vessel were told that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an latest communication, and said they had "issued a directive to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.

The vessel originally sailed from the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the journey.

"She was asked her to return, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, apparently without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, mum succumbed, by herself."

Operator Position

Through an announcement, the Head affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their investigation".

He stated that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Procedures

The liner caters for up to 120 guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to corporate details. It was purpose-built to reach isolated regions of the Australian coast and is equipped with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Events such as this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have protocols to track which passengers are boarding or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an option," a specialist remarked.

Vessel operators take these procedures very seriously and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such events from taking place," the specialist continued.

"This appears to be probably a shocking - and unfortunate - isolated incident."
